Course Information
Description Emphasizes pharmacological effects of addiction, tolerance, dependence, cross addiction, drug interation, withdrawal, and recovery. Describes the psychological and physiological effects of substance use and behaviors
Prerequisites None
Learning Outcomes Students will acquire a broad understanding of the psychological and physiological effects of substance use and behaviors, as well as the pharmacological effects of addiction, tolerance, dependence, cross addiction, drug interaction, withdrawal, and recovery.
Core Objectives * Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, and oral communication.
* Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in synthesis of information, and organizing concepts.
* Social Responsibility: Students will demonstrate intercultural competency and civic knowledge
* Personal Responsibility: Students will demonstrate the ability to connect their choices, actions
and consequences to ethical decision-making.
Program Student Learning Outcomes Students will recognize the social, political, economic, and cultural context within which addiction and substance abuse exist
Students will be competent to identify the behavioral, psychological, physical health and social effects of psychoactive substances on the individual who is using ,and the significant others in their lives.
Student will recognize the potential for substance use disorders to mimic a variety of medical and mental health conditions.
